Trusting God and His Leaders

 Psalm 61              Leviticus 11-12                   2 Peter 1

Today David reminds us that we look up to God who is a tower of strength against the enemy. When we dwell in the presence of the Lord, we take refuge in him like a small bird under it’s mothers wings. God trusts the vows we make when we promise to love and serve him wherever we are, church, government, jobs, or other groups. In the end, we are called to sing praise to God forever and to live out our vows day to day.

On the way to the promised land the Lord provided food for them daily in the form of manna, that they did not work for. And still they complained about the lack of variety and what God had given them. They complained to Moses they were better off back in the land of Egypt where they had been enslaved and abused. God’s anger burned against them and Moses felt worn out and angry with God to the point of wanting to die. The Lord responded Moses should call 70 leaders from the tribes and bring them before him that he could consecrate them to assist Moses. A part of the Spirit that has been upon Moses would be given to these leaders.

Then God told Moses he was about to give them so much meat they were going to chock on it. Moses only saw the limited resources, but God had another plan and reminded Moses his power wasn’t limited. God tells Moses to watch and see what he will do. When the Lord fulfilled his promise, the people began to gather all they could instead of trusting the Lord to provide and his anger burned against them again.

Then Moses brother and sister challenge him because he had married when in a foreign land where God had called him from to the lead the people. God calls Moses, Aaron and Miriam before him. Then he reminds them that his relationship with Moses is special and that he meets with him mouth to mouth. Moses has remained faithful and he is God’s chosen servant. God demands to know why they are challenging his choose one to lead them. When the cloud covers the tent, then departs, Miriam is afflicted by God and is leprous. While Moses prays for her healing, God tells Moses there has to be a cost for this blatant disobedience and she should be removed from the people for seven days and they she will be restored.

In Peter’s second letter he reminds us that God has place his divine power on him. In verse 5 – 7 he outlines that developing faith is a process that leads to learning to love. Using those qualities and increasing in them will lead to our being fruitful and come to the true knowledge of Jesus Christ. When we practice these things, it is the way to the entrance to the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Those that are short-sighed and fail to increase in these same qualities only do so because they have forgotten they needed to be purified from their previous sins.

Each of these reading today remind us that we must look to God for leadership as provided to us in the Holy Spirit that gives us the opportunity to remember that we must look up to God and not try to bring God down to us. We are called to be obedient to God and to those God places over us in our spiritual journey.
